Privacy Policy
Last updated: 28 October 2026
This policy describes how the griee movie, TV and book collection apps handle data. It does not cover the older GrieeX releases.
Developer and contact
griee is developed by Kaya Altın. For support and privacy questions, write to info@griee.com.
Your collection on your device
Your movie, TV and book records, reading status, pages, reading dates, selected editions and custom book covers, personal ratings, notes, watched flags, lists, tags and custom fields are stored on your device. griee does not upload your collection to a developer-operated server, and no account is required. Saved details and downloaded images can be opened offline while the files are still on your device.
Media files, legacy archives and backups you select are processed on your device for import, analysis or restore. griee does not upload them, or your personal notes, to TMDB. File access depends on what you select and the permissions your operating system grants.
Movie information and images
Searches, detail refreshes and image requests connect directly to The Movie Database (TMDB). A request includes the search text, the selected movie, show or season identifier, your language preference or the image path, as needed. Your IP address and standard connection information reach the provider as part of the connection.
TMDB may process and keep API usage, search and connection information under its own privacy policy, which covers its use, retention, international transfers and request channels: https://www.themoviedb.org/privacy-policy. griee does not sign you in to a TMDB account and does not ask for your location or advertising identifier.
griee has no ads, no advertising SDK and no analytics or crash reporting service that sends your app usage to the developer. This does not describe external providers’ own processing.
Book information and covers
Book searches and discovery connect to Open Library. Requests include the submitted title, author or ISBN, selected work or edition identifier, list or subject, page and language preference as needed. Cover requests connect to covers.openlibrary.org and may redirect to Internet Archive image servers. Your IP address and connection information reach these services.
griee does not send your personal reading progress, dates, ratings or notes to Open Library. Downloaded provider covers are kept in a removable local cache; your custom cover is stored with the book and included in the collection database. Open Library is an Internet Archive project. Its service information is available at https://openlibrary.org/about and Internet Archive’s privacy policy at https://archive.org/about/terms.php.
IMDb and Trakt
IMDb rating requests send the selected title’s IMDb identifier to IMDb. Public Trakt discovery, ratings, images and episode calendars connect to Trakt and its image services, with content identifiers, list choices and language preferences as needed. These connections share your IP address and standard connection information. See https://www.imdb.com/privacy and https://trakt.tv/privacy.
Connecting a Trakt account is optional. If connected, griee stores authorization credentials on your device and can import or sync watched movies and episodes, movie and TV ratings and the watchlist you select. Manual sync lets you review changes; optional automatic sync uses your saved choices while the app is running. Book records, personal notes, file locations, tags, favorites and custom fields are not sent to Trakt. Disconnecting the account stops future account sync; it does not erase records already held by Trakt.
Optional Dropbox Sync
Dropbox Sync requires your own Dropbox account. When you send your collection, its database is uploaded to your Dropbox app folder, including movie, TV and book records, notes, ratings, reading progress and custom book covers. Linked devices download the collection when you choose. Local media files and downloaded provider image cache files are not included.
griee stores Dropbox authorization credentials on your device. Disconnecting Dropbox stops access from that app installation; it does not automatically delete the file already stored in Dropbox or copies on other devices. Dropbox processes uploaded files and connection information under its own policy: https://www.dropbox.com/privacy.
Pro purchases
Purchases on phones and tablets are handled by your Apple or Google account, and iOS and Android are purchased separately. griee checks current purchases with StoreKit on iOS and Google Play on Android, and does not send purchase information to a developer-operated license server. A small local flag remembers your last known Pro status when the store can’t be reached; if the store reports no purchase, access is removed.
Sync is free on desktop. There are no desktop license keys, linking codes or device records, and your backups and Sync file do not contain your Pro status.
External links, exports and support
Trailers open external services such as YouTube or Vimeo, which may process information under their own policies.
When you export a backup or CSV file, it is written to the location you choose. If that location belongs to a cloud service, that service’s terms apply. Backups are not encrypted by the app, may contain your notes, and do not include your media files. Keep exported files somewhere safe.
If you email support, your address and message are used to answer your request. Please don’t send more personal information than needed, your whole collection or private media files.
Retention, deletion and your rights
Your collection stays in the app’s storage on your device. Moving a record to Trash does not delete it permanently. Clearing the app’s data or uninstalling it may remove local data, depending on your operating system; backups, CSV files and media files stored elsewhere are not deleted.
The developer has no access to your local collection and cannot read or erase it remotely. Clearing local data does not erase TMDB’s connection records; use the request channels in TMDB’s policy for those. For support messages or other privacy requests, write to info@griee.com.
Security and changes
Provider information and image requests use HTTPS. Protection of local files and backups also depends on your device’s security and where you keep them; griee does not claim that all data is end-to-end encrypted.
If the way griee handles data changes, this policy will be updated and the date above will change.
